Case: Faceted rock-crystal case, the gilt-brass rims engraved with foliate decoration. The silver band, engraved with foliate scrolls and hounds, replaces an original rock-crystal band. The front cover is a modern replacement. Dial: Gilt-brass dial with eight engraved panels decorated with flowers and animals in a floral border around a silver chapter-ring with hours I-XII and arrow-head half-hour marks. The central area is engraved with a landscape. Blued-steel hand. (The chapter-ring is possibly a replacement.) Movement: Elongated octagonal gilt-brass plates with four baluster pillars. Ratchet and click set-up with a replacement wheel. Fusee with gut line; three wheel train; verge escapement; pierced foliate balance cock screwed to the back plate. Signed on the back plate: Duboule Made by a member of the Duboule family of Geneva, possibly Martin Duboule, 1583-1640 or, more likely, one of his sons Jean Baptiste, 1615-1694, or Jean, apprenticed 1629.
